It’s who you know in Montenegro. My airport taxi driver hooked us up with a cheap hire car for a couple of days, and we began our whistle-stop tour of the bay. Driving in Montenegro is quite the adventure. Road rules and speed limits are more of a suggestion, and locals zip around like a bat out of hell (much to my glee and Loz’s horror). A ferry ride, a scenic lookout, a coastal drive, and an invitation from the parking officers to join them on their boat for sunset, and before we knew it we were wandering through the tiny pedestrian-only village in complete awe.
The only word that even comes close to describing how sparkling and spectacular this day was? MAGICAL. Colours so vibrant they defied belief, shimmers of sunshine dancing on the water, looming mountains encircling the little bay, water so clear it barely looked real... My eyes couldn’t drink it all in fast enough. We walked from one end to the other, then slowly meandered back so I could snap a million photos. Lunch was enjoyed with a Hugo spritz on the waterfront, with a lovely coffee on the house from the restaurant manager, gelato in the shade with our legs dangling over the ledge and boats puttering by, and a golden sunset to finish. The most perfect day.
